The Hand Punched Grater made from punched tin fixed on wood
Anyone from the Caribbean will recognise this hand punched grater. Every home had one it was part of our identity. It was used to grate fresh coconut to make rice and peas or coconut drops, to grate carrots for carrot juice on Sundays and of course to grate ginger. If your hand slipped whilst you were using it you were sure to see the sight of blood as they were lethal you even had to be careful as you washed them. As a child it was a job I dreaded and hoped would not be delegated to me as I was and still can be clumsy.
I refer to them as the original cold press machines but we are glad of progress.
